OPD Conducts Proactive Enforcement Over Fourth of July Weekend
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) conducted proactive enforcement citywide over the Fourth of July weekend to help ensure community safety.
From Friday through Sunday, officers made 198 enforcement stops, resulting in 20 arrests, including 18 adults and two juveniles. Officers issued 184 citations for moving, pedestrian, and vehicle registration violations, towed 19 vehicles, and recovered eight firearms.
“Oakland residents deserve to celebrate the Fourth of July and to live in a safe community every day of the year,” said Oakland Police Chief James Beere. “Every firearm we take off the street is a life we may have saved. I'm proud of our officers' hard work, not just this weekend, but every day, to keep Oakland's neighborhoods safe."
Separately, the City of Oakland, with help from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, has recovered more than 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks leading up to the holiday weekend, with further seizures expected as investigations continue.
OPD thanks our residents and city and county partners for their continued cooperation and remains committed to working together to make Oakland safer for everyone.
