You may notice that some Kern County Sheriff’s deputies are wearing a different badge than you’re used to seeing.
In recognition of the United States’ 250th anniversary, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office has designed a commemorative badge that has been authorized for optional wear by sworn personnel. The commemorative badge honors our nation’s 250 years of history while reflecting our continued commitment to serving the people of Kern County with honor, integrity, and professionalism.
From July 1, 2026, through July 30, 2027, deputies may choose to wear either the commemorative badge or the standard badge while on duty. If you see this commemorative badge in the community, know that it is an official badge authorized by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Whether a deputy is wearing the commemorative badge or the traditional badge, both are official Kern County Sheriff’s Office badges worn by sworn law enforcement personnel.
