| On June 18, 2026, Ventura County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 500 block of North Victoria Avenue to investigate a reported theft from an open-air fruit and flower stand. The victim, who owns and operates the small produce market, provided deputies with surveillance video capturing the incident. The footage showed the suspect arriving in a distinctive vehicle, waiting for the employee to become distracted and leave the immediate area, then opening an unlocked container and stealing multiple fruit items. The total value of the stolen property was approximately $50. While the monetary loss was relatively small, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office recognizes that theft can have a significant impact on local small business owners. Detectives promptly initiated a follow-up investigation and worked to identify the individual responsible. Using the limited information available, Headquarters Detectives successfully identified both the suspect vehicle and the suspect. During the investigation, detectives learned that earlier on June 18, 2026, a deputy with the Camarillo Police Department had conducted a traffic stop involving the same vehicle. The driver and sole occupant was identified as Adrian Estrella, who was arrested on unrelated narcotics charges, an outstanding out of county warrant, and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail. Detectives positively identified Estrella as the suspect responsible for the fruit stand theft. While reviewing body-worn camera footage from the Camarillo arrest, detectives observed the stolen fruit on the floorboard of the vehicle's rear passenger compartment, further corroborating the investigation. Detectives also determined that Estrella had two prior theft-related convictions. Because of his prior criminal history and the circumstances of this case, detectives obtained additional charges and supplementally booked Estrella for Penal Code Section 666.1(a)(1) – Felony Petty Theft with Prior Theft-Related Convictions. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office remains committed to protecting our community and supporting local businesses. Crimes targeting hardworking business owners, regardless of the dollar amount involved, will be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible will be held accountable. Every theft represents more than a financial loss; it undermines the efforts of community members who work hard to earn an honest living, and we will continue to pursue those who victimize them. Estrella is currently being held in the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on the above-listed charges and is currently being held in lieu of $180,000 bail. |
