The Simi Valley Police Department is accepting applications for its Fall 2026 Citizens Police Academy, a 10-week program designed to strengthen community partnerships by giving residents and those who work in Simi Valley an inside look at the Simi Valley Police Department and the Ventura County Criminal Justice System.
Participants will hear directly from Simi Valley Police Department personnel, representatives from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, and other public safety partners as they explore the people, specialized units, and processes that make up modern policing and the criminal justice system. Topics include Patrol, Dispatch, Investigations, K-9, SWAT, Traffic Enforcement, Narcotics, Gangs, and the Criminal Justice System. Participants will also take part in a ride-along with a Simi Valley police officer, providing a unique, firsthand look at policing in action.
The academy is open to adults who live or work in Simi Valley. Applicants must have no felony convictions or pending criminal cases and will complete a brief criminal history check as part of the application process.
Classes will be held Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., August 27 through October 29, 2026, at the Simi Valley Police Department, 3901 Alamo Street. The program also includes field trips to the Ventura County Jail and the Ventura County Sheriff's Training Center. Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation to the field trip locations. Class size is limited to 24 participants, and there is no cost to attend.
