The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office will hold its 12th Annual Sheriff’s Civilian Academy for residents of Middlesex County in the Fall of 2026.
The Sheriff’s Civilian Academy is designed to educate Middlesex County residents on the various functions, duties, and responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office.
Applications are being accepted now for the program, which will be held at the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Training Center in Edison.
The first session is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Classes will continue weekly on Thursdays, with one Saturday class included. The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2026.
Each session will highlight different functions of the Sheriff’s Office, including K-9 operations, transportation, fingerprinting, D.A.R.E., courts, civil process, foreclosures, and more. Participants will also tour the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and the Main Courthouse located in New Brunswick.
Sheriff Scott said, “The Sheriff’s Civilian Academy is a wonderful way for us to reach out to the residents of Middlesex County. It is part of our mission to protect and serve the public. Our goal is to give Academy participants a better understanding of the role of the Sheriff’s Office that they can take back into their communities.”
Applications are due no later than August 12, 2026. The application will be used to determine suitability for the program. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside within Middlesex County, have no felony convictions, not be wanted for any crime, and submit to a limited background check.
