Did you know? Fair Haven had its own baseball team over a century ago — the Foxes!

Back in 1909, Fair Haven was home to an amateur ball club known as the Foxes, officially the Richard K. Fox Baseball Team, named for their sponsor Richard Kyle Fox, the colorful publisher of the National Police Gazette. They played their home games on a local farm field known by names like "Tobin's Alfalfa Plateau" and "Squire Tobin's Front Lot," taking on teams from as far as Newark, Jersey City, and New York City. Game days were treated as full community events, with games often advertised through witty, larger-than-life posters. Sixteen of those original advertising broadsides survive today and are archived at the University of Notre Dame's Hesburgh Libraries.

Stop by the Fair Haven Historical Society table on Saturday to see more and hear the full story of the Foxes — a fun look at how our town's baseball roots connect straight through to the players on the field today!

Bring the whole family, wear your red, white, and blue, and help us celebrate America's 250th right here in Fair Haven!

Community Center Fields Saturday, July 11th | Starting 9:15am

More 250th celebrations to come this Fall — stay tuned!
