The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from May 31 to June 6.
May 31st
Robbery / False Info to Police Officer / Warrant Arrest – 11319 San Pablo Ave (Chevron):
At 8:21 AM, officers responded to a disturbance at Chevron. The clerk pointed out a suspect who stole an alcoholic beverage and he was detained by officers pending the investigation. The suspect made threatening statements to the clerk to prevent them from stopping the theft of the alcoholic beverage. The suspect provided a false name to officers during the investigation. Once their true identity was known, it was determined there was a warrant for their arrest. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Warrant Arrest - Richmond Street/Fairmount Ave:
At 7:08 PM, an officer conducted a welfare check on a subject that was passed out on the sidewalk and discovered they had an outstanding warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Driving Under the Influence - San Pablo Ave/Cutting Blvd:
At 7:05 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation and released to a sober relative.
June 1st
Petty Theft – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 12:35 AM, the victim reports an individual stole their personal items.
Warrant Arrest – Stockton Ave/BART path:
At 12:36 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a subject on a misdemeanor warrant. The subject was placed under arrest and later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
Auto Burglary – 1600 block of Kearney Street:
At 3:22 AM, the victim reported their vehicle had been broken into and property stolen from it by an unknown suspect.
June 2nd
Battery and Criminal Threats – 10125 San Pablo Ave (Popeyes):
At 1:18 PM, The victim reports a suspect entered the establishment and became irate with the service they were receiving. After attempting to commit an assault on employees and others, the suspect threatened several individuals prior to leaving.
Criminal Threats and Possession of a Dirk or Dagger – 7150 Portola Dr (Invictus Academy):
At 10:01 AM, a suspect was placed under arrest for threatening individuals. Once being placed under arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of a dirk or dagger (knife). The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to a Martinez Detention Facility.
Stolen Vehicle – 2200 block of Key Blvd:
At 3:45 PM, the victim reports their vehicle was stolen.
Evading Police – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 5:44 PM, Officers were dispatched to a report of a dispute. Upon arrival, a vehicle fled the scene, a short pursuit ensued and was terminated shortly thereafter due to safety concerns.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave/Schmidt Lnane:
At 7:50 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the subject on a misdemeanor warrant. The subject was placed under arraest and later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
Felony Evading/Stolen Vehicle – Potrero Ave / S. 47th Street:
At 3:47 AM, officers located a stolen vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle led officers on a pursuit. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
June 3rd
Warrant Arrest – 700 Block of Everett Street:
At 10:49 AM, Officers placed a wanted individual under arrest.
Violation of a Restraining Order – 6500 Block of Donal Ave:
At 3:34 PM, the restrained party contacted the protected party against a current restraining order.
Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 4:15 PM, store employees reported a suspect entered the establishment, concealed items, and left without paying.
Driving Under the Influence/Driving Without a License – Knott Ave/San Pablo Ave:
At 2:03 AM, officers conducted a suspicious vehicle check and located the driver asleep in the driver’s seat. The driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and not having a valid driver's license. After booking the driver was released on a citation to a sober friend.
June 4th
Trespassing – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 11:29 AM, the victim reports an individual trespassed onto their property.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 8000 block of Betty Lane:
At 3:32 PM, Officer located and recovered a previously reported stolen vehicle.
June 5th
Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 1:38 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect who stole merchandise from Marshall’s. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
June 6th
Driving Under the Influence - San Pablo Ave/Ohio Street:
At 12:34 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation, and released to a sober friend.
Vandalism – 6400 block of Schmidt Lane:
At 3:32 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect damaged the door handle of a vehicle sometime overnight.
Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 7:11 PM, an officer reports a security guard attempted to prevent three suspects from leaving the store with unpaid merchandise. One of the suspects punched the guard several times as the guard was retrieving the concealed items. The suspects fled the store in a vehicle after throwing items at the guard. Officers located the vehicle several blocks away and conducted an enforcement stop. During the investigation the security guard advised officers he did not want to pursue charges. This case will be forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Theft - 11687 San Pablo Ave (Grand Gas):
At 8:45 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect cut into a storage unit and stole merchandise. The incident occurred on June 5th at 12:42 AM.
Driving Under the Influence - Carlson Blvd/Panama Ave:
At 11:56 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation, and released to a sober relative.
