JCMUA infrastructure work to close New York Avenue between JC and Hoboken starting Monday, July 13
Beginning on or about Monday, July 13, New York Avenue west of Harrison Street will be closed Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The closure is part of a Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) project to replace storm sewers in the area. This project is anticipated to last approximately 30 days.
Residents are advised to prepare for delays in the area of New York Avenue and Observer Highway at the Hoboken/Jersey City border and seek alternate routes into Jersey City during working hours.
Rebuild by Design closure of 14th Street to begin Monday, July 20
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has announced construction related to Rebuild by Design Hudson River (RBDH) on 14th Street between Washington and Bloomfield Streets, will begin Monday, July 20.
The work will require the closure of 14th Street to vehicular traffic in both directions between Washington and Bloomfield Streets, through mid-Fall. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Washington and 15th Streets. Pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses in the area
As a result of the closure, New Jersey Transit will temporarily relocate two bus stops and implement detours. NJDEP and NJT will release additional information on these detours prior to the closure. NJT has noted they will post temporary signage to direct customers. Hoboken Police will be on site as needed to assist with traffic mitigation, detours, and pedestrian safety.
The closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of the Resist structure, which will include a gate across Fourteenth Street at Washington Street. The gate will help mitigate storm surge flooding from the Hudson River.

Hunter Roberts Construction Group, on behalf of the City of Hoboken and project partner LCOR, will complete work during this phase, including replacing curbs, sidewalks, drainage, and hydrants, and fully reconstructing the roadway.
During construction, the following vehicle and pedestrian detours will also be in place:
- The south-side sidewalk of Hudson Place will be closed. Pedestrians will be detoured to the north-side sidewalk via a designated crosswalk.
- River Street will be closed to vehicles between Hudson Place and Newark Street. Local deliveries will be permitted at the discretion of HPD.
- The Hop, shuttle buses, and taxi stands will be temporarily relocated. Riders are encouraged to check the Passio Go app and follow signage for relocation information.
This phase of construction, including road and sidewalk closures, is anticipated to last approximately five weeks (approximately mid-to-late August).
