Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on July 4, 2026 at approximately 0922 hours, Deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a shooting in the 62000 block of Stephenson St., Cassopolis, Howard Township, Cass County, Michigan.
Deputies were first dispatched to a scene on White St. and Dailey Rd. where the suspect and secondary victim had been located. The suspect, William Werner(33yrs old of Cassopolis, MI), had crashed his vehicle into a utility pole and then upon exiting his vehicle he assaulted the secondary female victim. The investigation showed that a shooting took place on Stephenson St., where Werner shot at a vehicle occupied by two adults and four juveniles. No one was injured during the shooting. The victims’ names will not be released due to this being an ongoing investigation. The suspect, William Werner, was lodged at the Cass County Jail and arraignment in the 4th District Court where bond was set at 1 million dollars.
Assisting Agencies were Michigan State Police, Cassopolis PD, Central Cass FD, and Edwardsburg Ambulance.
