Officer-Involved Shooting in the 4000 block of International Boulevard
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred just after 2:00 p.m. on July 13, 2026, in the 4000 block of International Boulevard. OPD's Communications Division received a call from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) requesting assistance.
Once on scene, officers located an armed individual and issued commands to comply. The individual did not comply and lunged at officers with a weapon. In response to the threat, officers used both less-lethal and lethal force, fatally striking the suspect.
Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene. Weapons were recovered at the location. No officers or other community members were physically injured during this incident.
We appreciate the community’s ongoing support in assisting with our investigations.
In accordance with OPD policy, the officers involved in the incident will be placed on paid administrative leave.
Consistent with OPD policy, the OIS is under both criminal and administrative investigation by the Oakland Police Department. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office is conducting an independent investigation. The Community Police Review Agency (CPRA) has been notified of the incident.
