Police Arrest Newark Man for Two Robberies and a Sexual Assault
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., reports the arrest of Faheem Green, 25, of Newark, in connection with two robberies, one involving a sexual assault, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
“I commend our Major Crimes detectives for their diligence in identifying and apprehending this suspect on the same day that these incidents occurred,” Director Miranda said. “Every Newark resident and visitor can feel safer due to this suspect being off our streets.”
At approximately 7:30 a.m., Police responded to Orange Street near South 11th Street on a call of a robbery. The victim, a nun, was walking southbound on South 11th Street when she was approached by a male who struck her with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground. The suspect then fled with the victim’s purse. She was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
On the same day, at approximately 8 a.m., a second woman reported that after she exited a bus at Hudson Street near Central Avenue, she was followed by a man who brandished a handgun and demanded her purse. After the victim handed over her belongings, the suspect struck her in the face with the handgun, pushed her to the ground, and applied pressure to her neck until she lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, the victim discovered that she had been raped. The victim was transported to University Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
Detectives investigating both incidents identified Green as a suspect after reviewing surveillance footage from both locations. He faces a robbery charge in the Orange Street incident.
He also faces charges of robbery, aggravated sexual assault in the course of a felony, aggravated assault, attempted murder, and criminal restraint in the Orange Street incident.
These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #newarknj #police #robbery #suspect
