Community Partners Raise $23,700 to Enhance School Safety

The Janesville Police Department, Janesville Fire Department, Rock County School Safety Committee, and the Janesville Jets joined forces to host the Rock County School Safety Night on February 14, 2026, at the Woodman’s Sports & Convention Center. The event successfully raised awareness and funding to support school safety initiatives throughout Rock County.
On July 13, 2026, the Rock County School Safety Committee was presented with a check totaling $23,700, representing proceeds from the fundraising effort.
Early in the planning process, the committee identified classroom casualty kits as one of the most pressing needs for local schools. The funds raised will be used to purchase and distribute these lifesaving kits to public and private schools throughout Rock County, ensuring classrooms are better equipped to respond during emergencies.
In addition to raising funds, School Safety Night highlighted the invaluable work of School Resource Officers (SROs). Every day, SROs build relationships, mentor students, foster positive school environments, and serve as trusted resources for students, staff, and families. Their presence helps create safe, supportive learning environments where students can thrive while providing an added layer of security throughout our schools.
The success of the event was made possible through months of collaboration and community support. Fundraising efforts included sponsorships, silent auction donations, casualty kit sponsorships, school fundraisers, and the sale of commemorative warm-up jerseys and T-shirts featuring a custom school safety logo designed in partnership with students from Janesville Parker High School, Janesville Craig High School, and the Janesville Business Academy.
The jerseys were sponsored by the Janesville Professional Police Association, Janesville Firefighter Charities, Beloit Professional Police Association, Beloit Professional Fire Fighters Local 583, and the Rock County Sheriff’s Office. Businesses from across Rock County also generously sponsored the event and made donations to support the initiative.
Additional fundraising events included a friendly competition between Parker High School SRO Carmen Roche and Craig High School SRO Kalasin Sihabouth, who participated in a goalie challenge with equipment provided by the Janesville Youth Hockey Association. Students paid $1 for three shots for a goal, raising more than $400 while enjoying a fun and engaging event. While it was a close race, SRO Carmen Roche was more athletic in her performance and earned the title of SRO Goalie Champ!
The School Safety Night also featured emergency vehicle displays, K-9s, community engagement activities, and an SRO sled race between Janesville and Edgerton schools, creating opportunities for positive interactions between first responders and community members. The Janesville Jets ended the evening with a 3–2 victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears, making the event a memorable success both on and off the ice.
The Janesville Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the Janesville Jets for their partnership and commitment to community safety. We also thank our public safety partners, sponsors, volunteers, local businesses, and everyone who attended and contributed to the event’s success.
Together, this collaborative effort demonstrates what can be accomplished when a community unites around a shared commitment to keeping our schools safe. We look forward to building on this success during the next Rock County School Safety Night in 2027.
