UPDATE (11:42p): Alameda de las Pulgas/HWY 92 has been reopened to through traffic. 
On July 14, 2026, at approximately 7:16 p.m., San Mateo Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle that traveled through the intersection of Highway 92 and Alameda de las Pulgas before crashing into a light pole near the 1900 block of Alameda de las Pulgas.
Following the solo collision, the vehicle caught fire. The lone occupant of the vehicle was later pronounced deceased.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and is appropriate to share.
We ask the public to avoid the area of Alameda De Las Pulgas, between Highway 92 and 20th Avenue and seek alternate routes while first responders and investigators continue their work. There is heavy, toxic smoke around the crash site.
