Heat Advisory today

The City of Hoboken is under a National Weather Service (NWS) heat advisory through 9 p.m. tonight. Heat index values of up to 101 are expected, with high humidity. Vulnerable residents, including seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions, are at an increased risk for heat-related illnesses. Please remember, during high heat and humidity, to hydrate regularly, wear lightweight clothing, stay in air conditioning whenever possible, take breaks in the shade when working outside, keep an eye on your pets, and check on vulnerable loved ones and neighbors.

Those attending the Hoboken Big Match Block Party at Pier A Park this afternoon are encouraged to follow the safety guidelines above. The City and its Block Party partners have also made plans to move as much of the event as possible into shaded areas, to accommodate the heat.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day. This means that the air in the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung disease should take extra precautions.

Due to the forecast, tonight's Fitness in the Park with Diva Dance and Elevate Pilates has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a future date.
