Heat Advisory and Severe Storm Risk Today 7/15 - Cooling Center Open and Extended Spray Park Hours

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Asbury Park area for today, Wednesday, July 15. Dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected today, with high temperatures near 100 degrees and heat index values reaching up to 106 degrees. Hot and humid conditions will continue through Friday, with highs in the upper 80s and 90s.

Isolated severe thunderstorms are also possible today between 4pm and 11pm, with damaging wind gusts, hail, brief heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning as the main threats.

A cooling center is open at the Asbury Park Senior Center, 1201 Springwood Avenue, 2nd Floor, Suite 102, today, Wednesday, July 15, from 9am to 6pm. Residents without air conditioning are especially encouraged to take advantage of this resource.

The Spray Park will also have extended hours, open from 10am to 7pm, today through Friday, July 17.

  • Stay in an air-conditioned location, especially during the warmest parts of the day
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets

Energy Tips and Outage Reporting from JCP&L
With an extended stretch of extreme heat expected this week, Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) is offering tips to help residents stay cool and manage energy costs, including running fans instead of AC when possible, setting thermostats as high as comfort allows, keeping blinds closed during the day, and shifting laundry and cooking to cooler hours. Mandatory Water Conservation Notice for Monmouth and Ocean Counties
New Jersey American Water has issued a mandatory conservation notice for customers in Monmouth and Ocean Counties due to ongoing drought conditions. Customers must limit all non-essential outdoor water use, including outdoor watering, to twice per week or less, and even less frequently if it rains. Customers will be notified when the notice is lifted. Landlords whose water service is in their name are asked to inform tenants of this requirement.
