Air Quality Alert - Unhealthy
Air Quality Alert & Heat Advisory for Westport
The Westport Fire Department is urging residents to take extra precautions this afternoon as air quality has reached the "Unhealthy" category (AQI 151) while a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9:00 PM.
This combination of poor air quality and dangerous heat increases the risk of heat-related illness and respiratory problems.
We encourage everyone to:
• Limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity.
• Move exercise, sports, and other outdoor activities indoors whenever possible.
• Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces.
• Keep windows closed if smoke is noticeable and use air conditioning if available.
• Check on older adults, young children, and anyone with heart or lung disease.
• Have asthma or other respiratory medications readily available if prescribed.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
The National Weather Service is also monitoring the potential for isolated severe thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening, which may produce damaging wind gusts. Continue to monitor the forecast and be prepared to move indoors if storms develop.
The Westport Fire Department will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as necessary.
Stay safe, Westport.
