The National Weather Service has issued the following:
What: Severe Thunderstorm Warning
Where: Manhattan and The Bronx
When: Until 5:15 PM on 7/15
Hazards: 70 mph winds and 1 inch sized hail expected.
Impact Level: Considerable
Strong winds can cause flying debris, turn unsecured objects into projectiles, and cause power outages. Hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect considerable tree damage and possible power outages. Flying debris may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Expect extensive damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, and trees. Power outages are likely.
Preparedness Actions:
Exercise caution when walking, biking, or driving. For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. These storms have the potential to cause injury and property damage. Avoid unnecessary travel. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Before an outage
- Charge cell phones
- Gather supplies
- Turn refrigerators/freezers to a colder setting
During an Outage
-Stay clear of downed power lines
-Turn off all appliances
-Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage
-Do not use generators indoors
-If you have a disability/access needs, or use life sustaining equipment (LSE) and need immediate assistance, dial 911.
