Canada Wildfires Ongoing - Air Quality Alert in Effect

A Message from the Haledon Office of Emergency Management

The Borough of Haledon Office of Emergency Management is aware of smoke and haze affecting the area. There is no active emergency or major fire currently occurring within the Borough of Haledon. The conditions are associated with regional wildfire smoke moving into our area from Canada.

Please do not call 911 or the Haledon Police Department Communications Center solely to report the smell of smoke or hazy skies. Emergency lines must remain available for urgent incidents.

As always, please call 911 immediately if you observe active flames, a localized fire, or a distinct column of thick black smoke.

Residents are advised to:

Keep windows and doors closed.

Where practical, run air conditioners on “recirculate.”

Until air quality improves, residents are advised to limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially for children, older adults, and individuals with respiratory or other health conditions.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Alert until Friday, July 17, 2026, 12:00 AM. Please continue monitoring local air-quality updates via airnow.gov.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please stay informed and stay safe.

Instructions:
