The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a PM2.5 Air Quality Alert for Thursday, July 16, and Friday, July 17, 2026. Air quality is forecast to reach Code Red on Thursday and Code Orange on Friday. The Allegheny County Health Department has also issued a Mon Valley Air Pollution Watch for both days.
Young children, older adults, and people with asthma or other respiratory conditions should avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity and consider moving activities indoors. Everyone else should reduce strenuous outdoor activity and take frequent breaks.
Facilities that significantly contribute to particulate pollution are expected to ensure equipment is operating properly and be prepared to quickly implement their mitigation plans.
