INCIDENT: Sheriff's Detectives Seeking Public's Assistance in Suspected Dog Poisoning
LOCATION: Town of Yucca Valley
SUMMARY: Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Morongo Basin Station, are investigating a suspected dog poisoning in Yucca Valley and are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the person or persons responsible.
On July 6, 2026, deputies responded to a residence in Yucca Valley after receiving a report that a dog became seriously ill after consuming chicken bones believed to have been laced with antifreeze. The dog required emergency veterinary treatment after ingesting the suspected poison and later died as a result.
Detectives are aware of other unverified reports of dogs being poisoned; however, the Sheriff's Department has not been made aware of any additional incidents and is asking anyone with information to contact the Morongo Basin station.
Anyone who has witnessed suspicious activity in the area, has home surveillance footage, or is aware of similar incidents that may not have been reported, is urged to contact investigators. Information from the public may help identify the suspect and prevent additional animals from being harmed.
