Due to poor air quality, all outdoor activities are suspended for today, Friday, July 17
Due to a Code Purple Air Quality Alert issued today, July 17, 2026, for the District of Columbia, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is taking the following actions to protect public health:
- All outdoor activities, programs, classes, and events are canceled for today. DPR summer camp continues with limited/no outdoor activities.
- All outdoor summer camp trips and off-site programming are canceled.
- All outdoor pools are closed for the day.
- All outdoor permitted activities are canceled (including pools, fields, courts, and park sites).
- Spray parks are closed.
- Indoor recreation centers, gyms, and indoor pools remain open as scheduled and provide air-conditioned, filtered-air environments.
- Code Purple means air quality is very unhealthy for everyone.
- All residents should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
- Children, seniors, and individuals with heart or lung conditions should remain indoors as much as possible.
- If you must go outside, consider wearing an N95/KN95 mask and limit time spent outdoors.
- Check DPR.DC.GOV for updates on DPR, and visit alert.dc.gov to receive and view real-time updates for all of DC Government.
