Reminder and Updates: Closures on 14th Street and Hudson Place begin Monday, July 20
Rebuild by Design closure of 14th Street to begin Monday, July 20; Plan ahead for NJ Transit bus detours
Residents are reminded that New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) construction related to Rebuild by Design Hudson River (RBDH) on 14th Street between Washington and Bloomfield Streets, will begin Monday, July 20.
The work will require the closure of 14th Street to vehicular traffic in both directions between Washington and Bloomfield Streets, through mid-Fall. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Washington and 15th Streets in the coming weeks. Pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses in the area
As a result of the closure, New Jersey Transit will operate on alternative routes and temporarily relocate and/or close impacted bus stops. The following detours will be in place during the construction period:
- NYC-bound buses will take Washington Street to 15th Street and then turn right on Willow Ave to resume their route.
- Hoboken Terminal-bound buses will take Willow Avenue to 11th Street and use stops at 13th and Willow Avenue and 11th and Willow Avenue. At 11th Street they will turn onto Washington Street and resume the regular route, southbound, to the terminal.
The following bus stops will be impacted:
- NYC-bound bus stops:
- 14th Street and Bloomfield Street will be relocated to 14th Street and Washington Street.
- 15th Street and Willow Avenue will be relocated from the south side of the intersection to the north side of the intersection.
- Hoboken Terminal-bound bus stops:
- 14th Street and Park Avenue will close.
- 14th Street and Bloomfield Street will close.
- Washington Street and 12th Street will close.
NJ Transit has noted they will post temporary signage in English and Spanish, to direct customers. Hoboken Police will be on site as needed to assist with traffic mitigation, detours, and pedestrian safety.
The closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of the Resist structure, which will include a gate across Fourteenth Street at Washington Street. The gate will help mitigate storm surge flooding from the Hudson River.
