BE WEATHER-AWARE TOMORROW 7/18 - Multiple Rounds Of Storms Potentially Statewide
The Township of Cranford's Office of Emergency Management is monitoring tomorrow's forecast, which has the potential to bring severe thunderstorms and large pockets of downpouring rain with high winds. Ambient wind gusts are projected at between 15-20MPH, but mid-storm gusts could reach 45-50MPH.
The first pocket of storms may touch down around 11:00 AM, easing up about an hour after beginning. The second pocket of storms could affect Cranford between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Total accumulations of rain could be a half of an inch to 3/4 of an inch, but also be could be higher in certain locations due to downpours. This forecast remains fluid, and residents should continue to monitor weather reports during the next 12 hours issued by reputable sources such as NOAA. Do not rely exclusively on NIXLE messaging for forecast information, but ensure you follow NIXLE for time sensitive emergency announcements.
Cranford OEM recommends that residents charge their phones, clear catch basins near their homes, and secure items such as lawn furniture and tents that could become airborne if wind gusts are experienced as forecasted.
Cranford Police, Fire, and Public Works have taken steps necessary to prepare for this storm including clearing storm drains, ensuring adequate manpower, and taking flash flood storm preparatory measures.
