Flood Watch Issued for Bergen County
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Bergen County from 10:00 AM Saturday, July 18, through 2:00 AM Sunday, July 19.
What to Expect:
- Rainfall: Widespread amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches, with localized totals of 2 to 4 inches possible.
- Rainfall Rates: Up to 1.5 to 2 inches per hour, with 2 to 3 inches possible within a 3-hour period.
- Flash Flooding: Isolated to scattered flash flooding is possible, especially in urban areas, poor drainage locations, and low-lying areas. Flooding could become significant, resulting in road closures, transportation disruptions, basement flooding, and possible water rescues.
Severe Weather Threats
- Damaging Winds: Gusts of 60 to 70+ mph may down trees and power lines, causing scattered power outages.
- Isolated Tornadoes: A few tornadoes are possible across northeastern New Jersey, including Bergen County.
Safety Reminders:
- Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
- Secure outdoor furniture and loose objects before storms arrive.
- Charge mobile devices and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
- Monitor local forecasts and be prepared to take action if Flash Flood Warnings or Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are issued.
