Cranford OEM Update - Second Round Of Storms Possible This Evening

CRANFORD OEM UPDATE: The Township of Cranford has taken its storm preparatory steps including monitoring/opening river gates, deploying portable pumps on Balmiere Parkway, and monitoring river telemetry. Please continue to reserve 9-1-1 for emergency calls only and utilize 908-272-2222 for requests for service only.

Forecast update: The torrential, slow-moving storms from earlier that produced locally 2 – 3” of rain and numerous flooding issues have now shifted largely to the south for the time being. That being said, we are watching additional showers / downpours / storms that are still trying to flare up to the west and push eastward. At this point, grounds are sensitive to additional rain, and flooding concerns will likely continue with any additional downpours seen with locally significant issues possible. This is particularly the case near to and south of I-78, where the heaviest rain occurred earlier in the afternoon. The best coverage may try to lull after 4 PM, but a shower or storm still isn’t ruled out even then. Coverage can increase again as we move closer to sunset and into the evening as a cold front approaches the region, bringing another “peak” concern for flooding as well as a stronger storm or two with gusty winds. Any stronger storm or flooding risk ends as activity tapers off into Midnight.
