The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Southern Westchester County until 11:30 p.m. tonight. The broader Flood Watch remains in effect until approximately 2:00 a.m. Sunday, July 19.
Thunderstorms are producing heavy rainfall across the area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen, with rainfall rates of 1 to 2.5 inches per hour. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall may be possible.
Flash flooding is ongoing or may begin quickly. Potential impacts include flooding of:
- Roadways, streets, highways and underpasses
- Low-lying and poor-drainage areas
- Small creeks and streams
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors when possible. Never drive or walk through a flooded roadway. Turn around, don’t drown. Be especially cautious after dark, when flooding and roadway hazards may be difficult to recognize.
Residents in flood-prone areas may move their vehicles to municipal parking areas, including the Hunter Tier, at no charge during this weather event.
