Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the shooting death of a male adult.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at approximately 2:12 p.m., at the 11300 block of South Street in the city of Cerritos doing business as "Lucille's"
Deputies from Cerritos Sheriff’s Station responded to the location regarding a report of a person armed with a knife. During the investigation, detectives learned the male adult entered the restaurant, ran through the kitchen/service areas, and frightened customers and staff.
The male adult was confronted by a customer who was lawfully armed and possessed a valid concealed carry permit. The customer ordered the male adult (John, Doe) to drop the knife. The male adult then charged toward the customer while still armed with the knife, and the customer discharged their firearm.
Upon arrival, deputies located the male adult suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and apparent lacerations. Deputies immediately initiated life-saving measures.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the location and pronounced the male adult deceased at the scene.
The individual involved in the shooting remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with investigative personnel.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
