Wilmington Police investigate vehicle break-in trend:

Wilmington Police are investigating a trend of vehicle break-ins and attempted vehicle theft incidents that took place over the weekend.
 
On July 19, police received a total of 28 calls for service regarding vehicle break-ins and attempted vehicle thefts that took place – including some incidents with broken windows or door handles, and some with damaged ignition columns indicating attempts to steal vehicles.
 
Incidents were reported in the area of 18th and North Broom Streets; the 600, 700 and 800 blocks of West 19th Street; the 600 block of West 20th Street; the 600 block of West 21st Street; the 2000 block of North Tatnall Street; the 2300 block of North Harrison Street; the 2300 and 2400 blocks of North Jefferson Street; the 800 block of McCabe Avenue; and the 100 block of West 31st Street.
 
Police have increased patrols in an attempt to locate suspects as well as to deter future incidents.
 
These incidents remain under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information, as well as photo or video that might have captured possible suspects, to contact investigators at (302) 654-5151. Additionally, those with photo or videos to share can utilize our online portal at www.WilmingtonDE.gov/Footage.
 
Police also ask members of the public to report any suspicious activity – including if they observe subjects pulling door handles – by dialing 9-1-1 or calling (302) 654-5151.
