The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Hoboken, from tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, through early Wednesday morning, with the potential for flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
The City and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are monitoring forecasts and will deploy barricades in low-lying, flood-prone areas as the city can experience flooding if it gets more than 0.8 inches of rain per hour.
OEM reminds residents to observe all barricades and not to drive around or move barricades. They are deployed for your safety and in some cases can prevent wake waters that cause even greater damage. Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and cause vehicles to stall, impacting emergency response times. Residents should not walk or drive through floodwater.
Report clogged catch basins
During Saturday’s storm, the City identified clogged catch basins and reported them to the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) for cleaning and maintenance. Clogged catch basins can significantly impede drainage capacity during heavy rainfall events and lead to more severe flooding. Residents are reminded to continue to report clogged catch basins to the NHSA hotline at (866) 689-3970.
Summer Fun at Shipyard Park Postponed
Due to the forecast, Family Fun at Shipyard Park Storytime with Harmonica Sunbeam, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, July 21, has been rescheduled Aug. 4.
