WEATHER ALERT – FLOOD WATCH & SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch and Hazardous Weather Outlook for Bergen County.

In Effect: 8:00 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2026, through 2:00 AM Wednesday, July 22, 2026

What to Expect:

• Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout today and this evening.
• Widespread rainfall totals of 1–2 inches are expected, with isolated areas receiving 3–4 inches.
• The heaviest storms may produce rainfall rates of up to 2.5 inches per hour.
• Excessive rainfall may cause flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas, locations with poor drainage, roadways, and urban areas.

Severe Weather Threats:

• Damaging Wind Gusts: 60–70 mph winds may bring down trees and power lines, causing power outages.
• Isolated Tornadoes: A few tornadoes are possible.
• Large Hail: Hail up to 1 inch in diameter may occur with the strongest storms.

Greatest Threat Periods:

• 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Isolated to scattered thunderstorms with a lower risk of severe weather and flooding.
• 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM: Scattered to numerous thunderstorms with the highest risk for severe weather and flash flooding.

Safety Reminders:

• Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown.
• Secure loose outdoor items that could become airborne in strong winds.
• Charge electronic devices in case of power outages.
• Monitor weather conditions throughout the day and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued.
