Advisory

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected today

The Village of Mamaroneck is monitoring the potential for multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms today, Tuesday, July 21, continuing into tonight.

Storms may begin developing late this morning, with the greatest potential for impacts during the afternoon and evening. Torrential downpours could cause flash flooding in low-lying, poor-drainage and roadway areas, particularly where repeated storms occur. Localized flooding of streams and creeks is also possible.
Some storms may become severe and produce:

  • Damaging wind gusts of 60–70 mph
  • Frequent lightning and torrential rainfall
  • Large hail
  • An isolated tornado
The National Weather Service forecasts average rainfall totals of 1–2 inches across the region, with localized totals of 3–4 inches possible. Rainfall rates could reach 2–2.5 inches per hour in the heaviest storms.
Residents in flood-prone areas may relocate their vehicles to any Village municipal parking lot, including the Hunter Tier, at no charge during this weather event.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, use caution while traveling and avoid unnecessary travel during the strongest storms. Never drive or walk through flooded roadways. Move indoors immediately when thunder is heard and remain alert for changing conditions.

Please continue to monitor National Weather Service alerts and Village of Mamaroneck communications for updates.
