The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Hudson County through 7:15 p.m. due to forecasted peak rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour. Hoboken is also under a flood watch through 2 a.m. Residents are reminded that the city can experience flooding in low-lying, flood-prone areas if more than 0.8 inches of rain per hour falls.  

Additionally, much of the State of New Jersey, including Hudson County, is under a tornado watch through 9 p.m. tonight. This means weather conditions could lead to the formation of a tornado. Should the tornado watch get elevated to a tornado warning, residents are instructed to do the following: 

• Avoid being outside and seek shelter indoors 
• Go to a basement, if possible, or the lowest level of your property to an internal room and avoid windows 
• Do not drive and instead seek shelter in a sturdy building  
• Continue to monitor local forecasts  
• Heavy winds can cause a power outage. Should you experience a power outage, contact PSE&G: 1-800-436-7734. 

Do not move barricades

Barricades will be deployed as needed. Do not drive around or move barricades. They are there for your safety, and in some cases, can prevent wake waters that cause even greater damage. Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and cause vehicles to stall. This can impact emergency response times. Do not walk or drive through floodwater.   

Report clogged catch basins  

Clogged catch basins can significantly impede drainage capacity during heavy rainfall events and lead to more severe flooding. 

Residents should report clogged catch basins to the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) hotline at (866) 689-3970.
