* Flash Flood Warning for... North Central Gilmer County in north central West Virginia... Barbour County in northeastern West Virginia... Northeastern Upshur County in northeastern West Virginia... Doddridge County in northern West Virginia... Harrison County in northern West Virginia... Northern Lewis County in northern West Virginia... Taylor County in northern West Virginia... Southeastern Tyler County in northern West Virginia... Northeastern Ritchie County in northwestern West Virginia...

* Until 945 PM EDT.

* At 538 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Clarksburg, Buckhannon, Grafton, Weston, Philippi, Audra State Park, Bridgeport, Shinnston, Belington, Stonewood, Nutter Fort, Salem, Lumberport, West Union, Anmoore, Jackson Mill, Enterprise, West Milford, Junior and Lost Creek. This includes the following highways... Interstate 79 between mile markers 99 and 129. Route 33 near mile marker 1...and between mile markers 6 and 7...and near mile marker 15...and near mile marker 17. Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 44 and 82.

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
