South Brunswick Police Continue Targeted
Route 1 Traffic Enforcement
The South Brunswick Police Department continues to make roadway safety a top priority through proactive traffic enforcement efforts, with a recent high-visibility operation focused on the Route 1 corridor.
A targeted traffic enforcement detail was conducted from 7:00 p.m. Wednesday through 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning, involving 12 officers dedicated to addressing dangerous driving behaviors along one of the township's busiest roadways.
During the operation, officers conducted:
- 71 Motor Vehicle Stops
- 45 Traffic Summonses Issued
The enforcement effort specifically targeted speeding, distracted driving, aggressive driving, seat belt violations, and other hazardous motor vehicle offenses that contribute to serious crashes.
Among the most significant violations, officers stopped a driver traveling more than 81 miles per hour on Route 1, highlighting the dangerous speeds officers continue to encounter on the highway.
"We are increasing our efforts, which have resulted in an 8% increase in motor vehicle stops this year compared to last year," said Acting Chief James E. Ryan. "Our priority is safer roads. Traffic safety remains the focus for our department; Operation Safe Summer was just the start. These enforcement efforts will continue throughout the weeks and months ahead. Our goal is to change driver behavior, reduce crashes, and make every trip through South Brunswick safer for our residents and visitors."
The department's continued emphasis on traffic enforcement reflects its commitment to reducing preventable crashes through high-visibility patrols and focused enforcement in areas where dangerous driving is most prevalent.
