The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from June 28th to July 4th.
June 28th
Tampering With a Vehicle – 500 block of Lexington Ave:
At 2:06 AM, an officer reports two suspects entered the victim’s vehicle by damaging the sunroof. Upon entry the suspects damaged the interior of the vehicle.
Shoplift – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 7:45 PM, an officer reports a subject was detained by security for shoplifting. The subject was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department where they were booked. After booking, the subject was issued a citation and released.
Public Intoxication/Battery on a Police Officer – San Pablo Ave/Knott Ave:
At 11:50 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and discovered the pedestrian was intoxicated and unable to care for themself. The pedestrian was placed under arrest for Public Intoxication and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. While driving to the jail, the suspect began spitting on officers.
June 29th
Robbery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Luckys):
At 7:46 PM, an officer reports an employee attempted to stop three suspects from leaving the store with unpaid merchandise when one of the suspects sprayed the employee with mace.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave/Knott Ave:
At 8:29 PM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the pedestrian for two active warrants.
June 30th
Theft – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Luckys):
At 9:14 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole the victim’s E-bike that was chained to a pole in front of the business.
July 1st
Driving Under the Influence - 1700 block of Eastshore Blvd:
At 2:15 AM, an officer located a vehicle in middle of the roadway that had collided into a parked vehicle. Officers located the driver passed out in the driver’s seat. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
Auto Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24 Hour Fitness):
At 5:46 PM, an officer reports that a suspect broke the front passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a coin purse containing cash.
Warrant Arrest – S. 55th Street/Mariposa Street:
At 7:01 PM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the pedestrian for an active warrant.
Possession of Illegal Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia – Central Ave/Norvell Street:
At 10:56 PM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and learned the pedestrian was on probation. During a probation search the pedestrian was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The pedestrian was arrested and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. The subject was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
July 2nd
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave/Blake St:
At 3:10 AM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the pedestrian for an active warrant.
Assault – 11000 block of San Pablo Avenue:
At 6:51 PM, an Officer reports that the victim got into an argument with a family ember. During the argument the suspect threw a step stool at the victim and then fled the scene.
Possession of Illegal Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 11:14 PM, an Officer reports that during a trespassing investigation, the suspect was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department where the subject was booked and then released on a citation.
July 3rd
Shoplift – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 3:40 PM, and officer was flagged down regarding a shoplift that occurred two hours prior. An unidentified suspect stole merchandise and fled the area.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Key Blvd/Liberty St:
At 10:48 PM, an officer located a previously reported stolen vehicle. The vehicle was recovered and the owner was notified.
July 4th
Grand Theft – 5300 block of School Street:
At 4:12 AM, an officer reports that the victim’s catalytic converter was stolen.
Warrant Arrest – 11555 San Pablo Ave:
At 1:26 PM, while on an unrelated call for service, an officer interrupted a theft from Walgreen’s and arrested the suspect on two non-citable warrants out of San Francisco and Berkeley. The suspect was placed under arrest, transported to the El Cerrito Police Dep[artment for booking, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
