The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from July 5th to July 11th.
July 5th
Warrant Arrest – Potrero Ave/Eastshore Blvd:
At 12:55 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and discovered the driver had a citable warrant out of Sonoma County. The driver received a citation for the warrant and was released at the scene.
Criminal Threats – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 5:11 PM, an officer responded to the business for a suspect who threatened the staff. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
Driving on a Suspended Driver's License – Carlson Blvd/Fairmount Ave:
At 7:18 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and discovered the driver had a suspended driver's license and their vehicle was required to have an Ignition Interlock Device. The driver was cited at the scene and the vehicle was impounded.
July 6th
Battery and warrant arrest - 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 9:15 AM an officer reports that a suspect punched a store employee and fled the store. Another officer located the suspect a few blocks away. The suspect was identified by store employees during a in field show up and placed under arrest. The suspect was found to have an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Petty Theft - 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 1:18 PM an officer reports that a suspect entered the store, selected merchandise, and fled the store without paying.
July 7th
Shoplift / Theft with Priors / Drug Paraphernalia – 11687 San Pablo Ave (Grand Gas):
At 8:39 AM. An officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect after they stole merchandise. The reporting party said the suspect had been stealing from the business several times a day for weeks. A search incident to arrest turned up a methamphetamine pipe in the suspect’s jacket. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Defraud an Innkeeper – 6120 Potrero Ave (Los Moles):
At 11:44 AM, an officer reports a couple ordered and dined, then left without paying the bill. One suspect left her purse and ID behind. The officer is making efforts to contact the suspect.
July 8th
Identity Theft – 6500 block of Schmidt Lane:
At 11:34 AM, an officer reports someone created two businesses in the victim’s name and without their permission.
Trespass/Resist Arrest – 11687 San Pablo Ave (Grand Gas):
At 3:00 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect after they refused to leave the property when asked by management. The suspect refused to submit to arrest and held their arms rigid in front of their body. Officers were eventually able to wrestle their arms behind their back and get them handcuffed. The suspect was placed under arrest and then released to the emergency room of the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for treatment of a pre-existing illness.
July 9th
Driving Under the Influence – 5800 block of Avila Street:
At 7:30 AM, a Community Service Officer issued a parking ticket and noted the occupants of the vehicle had open containers of alcohol and there was an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle, so he summoned a police officer to the scene. Officers detained the occupants, and after an investigation, the driver was arrested for DUI. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then cited and released to a sober relative.
Vandalism – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 12:05 PM, an unidentified suspect tore a downspout off the north side of the building and ripped the irrigation timer off the south wall.
Shoplift – 6000 Potrero Ave (Pet Vet Pet Food):
At 12:30 PM, an officer reports two unidentified suspects stole merchandise and fled in a vehicle.
Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 2:02 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole merchandise. Store staff recovered the items and the suspect fled.
Theft by False Pretense – 5300 block of Poinsett Ave:
At 3:14 PM, an officer reports the victim sent funds to an unidentified suspect for a house rental in another city. The victim then saw that the house was sold and realized they had been scammed.
July 10th
Shoplifting/Parole Violation – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 11:46 AM, an officer reports a suspect entered the business and stole merchandise. The suspect left the business with the stolen merchandise and was detained immediately. The suspect was on parole for burglary. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Illegal Dumping – 2000 block of Harper Street:
At 1:10 PM, an officer reports that the suspect dumped waste and personal items on the victims property.
Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 5:00 PM, an officer reports that the suspect entered the business and stole merchandise. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived.
Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/MacDonald Ave:
At 9:43 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. During a search incident to arrest the driver was found to be in possession of suspected cocaine. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department they were issued a citation, and released to a sober relative.
July 11th
Battery/Vandalism – 1700 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 12:22 AM, an officer reports a known suspect pushed the victim and damaged the victim’s property. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/Carlson Blvd:
At 12:25 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking they were issued a citation, and released to a sober friend.
Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/MacDonald Ave:
At 2:43 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking they were issued a citation, and released to a sober friend.
Trespassing/Public Intoxication/Assault – 600 block of Norvell Street:
At 11:04 AM, an officer reports that the suspect arrived at the residence extremely intoxicated and refused to leave. The suspect attempted to punch one victim in front of responding officers and was taken into custody. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Petty Theft – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 3:00 PM, an officer reports that the victim’s grey electric scooter was stolen from in front of the business.
Petty Theft – 11847 San Pablo Ave (The Smog Depot):
At 3:11 PM, an officer reports that the victim’s license plates were stolen.
Public Intoxication – 3090 El Cerrito Plaza (Starbucks):
At 5:27 PM, an officer contacted an intoxicated subject inside the business. The subject had been contacted earlier in the day for possessing an open container. The subject was in possession of two containers of alcoholic beverages and was extremely intoxicated. The subject was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking. They were medically rejected due to their level of intoxication and was transported to the Contra Costa Medical Center for treatment. The subject was cited and released into the care of the hospital.
Arson – 5040 El Cerrito Plaza (Panda Express):
At 9:19 PM, officers responded to the area for a subject who called 911 rambling incoherently. Officers located the subject inside the restroom of the business next to a lit fire. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
