Press Release: Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) on July 24, 2026
On 7/24/2026 at approximately 3:38 p.m., Fremont Police Dispatch received multiple calls reporting a man with a gun at an assisted living facility on Walnut Ave. The man was reported to be holding a firearm and carrying a duffel bag. The suspect was last seen in a meeting room and was reported to be holding two people hostage.
Multiple police officers responded and located the suspect holding an apparent firearm. During the interaction, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased. No officers were injured in this event.
After examining the suspect's weapon, Fremont Police investigators contacted the California Department of Justice's Police Shooting Investigation Team to take over the investigation.
This is an active investigation, and more details will be shared as they become available. No suspects are believed to be outstanding, and we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety at this time.
