Uptown firehouse to undergo repairs

The Hoboken Fire Department’s (HFD) Uptown Firehouse, located at 1313 Washington St., is temporarily closed, while necessary structural repairs are completed. Fire Department operations will continue throughout the closure uninterrupted. 

During the temporary closure, the two fire companies housed at the uptown location, Truck 1 and Engine 2, will operate from either the midtown firehouse, 801 Clinton St., or Fire Headquarters, 201 Jefferson St.

Emergency response assignments will remain unchanged. HFD command staff will continue to monitor response times and make adjustments if necessary. Personnel will continue to have access to the firehouse when needed, including to retrieve stored equipment 

Repairs, which are being completed by the City’s contractor, Nela Carpentry and Masonry, include the demolition and replacement of the fire engine bay concrete slab and underlying steel beams. The steel post framing the overhead door and the adjacent stairs will also be replaced. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027. For more information and project updates, visit Hobokennj.gov/construction.

Applications open for Home Improvement Program

The City has updated the application portal for its Home Improvement Program, which provides financial assistance to help low-to-moderate-income residents make essential repairs to their homes. Funded through the City's Affordable Housing Trust Fund, the program is designed to support eligible homeowners and tenants by improving the safety, accessibility, and overall condition of their homes.

Eligible applicants may receive up to $24,000 in repair funding through a no-interest, 10-year forgivable loan. Funding may be used to repair or replace major home systems and structural components, including roofs, foundations, heating systems, electrical systems, windows, insulation, plumbing, and more. 

Funding for the Home Improvement Program is limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Residents invited to an early screening of Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie

The City of Hoboken invites residents and visitors to enjoy a special early screening of Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at ResilienCity Park. The screening is part of the City's Free Movies Under the Stars series, which provides free outdoor movie nights for the community throughout the summer.

Families are encouraged to bring low-back lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of outdoor entertainment before the movie's official release. Residents are encouraged to arrive early to find seating.
