INCIDENT: Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Arroyo Avenue and Sequoia Street, Hesperia
DECEDENT: Reginald Matthews Jr., 39-year-old, Resident of Hesperia (Pedestrian)
SUMMARY: On Monday, July 27, 2026, at approximately 01:28 a.m., Deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff's Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a vehicle that had collided with a pedestrian near the intersection of Arroyo Avenue, and Sequoia Street, in the City of Hesperia.
Upon arrival, the victim, Reginald Matthews Jr., was located lying on the ground within the west bound lane of Sequoia Street, where he was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation showed Matthews walked west on Sequoia Street near the north roadway edge. The driver of the unknown make/model vehicle drove west on Sequoia Street. The driver of the vehicle collided with Matthews and immediately fled the scene west on Sequoia Street without checking on Matthew’s wellbeing. At this time, it is not known if drugs/alcohol played a factor in this collision. This collision is currently being investigated as a fatal Hit and Run.
