Driver Arrested for DUI Following Hit-and-Run Investigation
On the afternoon of July 27, 2026, at approximately 4:47 p.m., Petaluma Police officers responded to a report of a reckless driver in the area of Petaluma Boulevard North and Magnolia Avenue. The vehicle was described as a blue sedan reported to have run a red light and nearly collided with another motorist.
While officers searched the area, dispatch received additional reports of hit-and-run collisions involving a blue Honda sedan in nearby locations. Officers were assisted by area residents, who provided information that helped identify the involved vehicle and its location. A short time later, an officer located and stopped the suspect vehicle in the area of Petaluma Boulevard North and East Washington Street.
The driver, identified as Jessie Nielson (34, Rohnert Park), was contacted by officers. Based on observations made at the scene, officers conducted a field sobriety evaluation. As a result of their investigation, officers developed probable cause to believe Nielson had been operating his vehicle while impaired. A review of Nielson’s driving record revealed he had also been driving on a suspended license.
Nielson was later booked at the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:
- 23152(g) VC – DUI Combined Drugs and Alcohol
- 14601.2 (a) VC – Drive on Suspended License
- 381(b) PC – Possession of Inhalants
- 23222(B)(1) – Possess Marijuana While Driving
- 20002(a) VC – Hit and Run
