In the United States,
January is designated as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a national initiative focused on raising awareness and strengthening U.S. efforts to end human trafficking. While World Day Against Trafficking in Persons highlights the global fight, Human Trafficking Prevention Month emphasizes domestic prevention and protection. Together, these observances play vital roles in mobilizing action and increasing public awareness.
Definition of Human Trafficking
Human trafficking involves the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining (or attempted obtaining) of a person through force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of:
• Commercial sex acts
• Involuntary servitude
• Debt bondage
• Slavery
Our Commitment in Los Angeles County
On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in Los Angeles County. The LA Regional Human Trafficking Task Force is a multi‑agency partnership dedicated to combating both sex and labor trafficking throughout the county. Our collaborative work focuses on:
• Early identification of victims
• Strengthening investigations into labor and sex trafficking
• Ensuring survivors receive comprehensive support and services
As a dedicated law enforcement agency, we work closely with federal, state, county, and local partners, along with social service providers and victim advocacy organizations, to end human trafficking in all its forms. Our efforts remain especially focused on protecting commercially sexually exploited children in Los Angeles County.
