Narrative:
|
During the last week of May 2026, Camarillo Patrol Deputies responded to a theft in progress at a retail store at the Camarillo Premium Outlets. Upon arrival, Camarillo Patrol Deputies identified the suspects’ vehicle and attempted to make a traffic enforcement stop to investigate the theft. As deputies initiated the stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, more than 100 miles per hour. Camarillo Patrol Deputies pursued the vehicle onto the US 101 freeway. During the pursuit, the suspects threw property out of the vehicle and onto the freeway. The pursuit continued into the city of Thousand Oaks and was subsequently terminated as the suspect vehicle was driving without regard for human life and the risk to public safety became too great.
The vehicle was later located unoccupied in the City of Thousand Oaks by Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) Deputies. Detectives from the Camarillo and Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Units (SEU) were ultimately able to identify one of the suspects involved as, (S) Dalma Shantall Saldana Nunez.
Detectives from Camarillo SEU and DEU began a lengthy investigation into Nunez and the unknown second suspect. During the investigation, detectives were made aware that Nunez and her co-conspirator were not only committing crimes in Ventura County, but also in Kern, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino counties.
On 07/23/2026, at approximately 1425 hours, Camarillo SEU and DEU detectives were made aware that the suspect vehicle identified in the crimes in May 2026, had returned to Ventura County and was at the Camarillo Premium Outlets. SEU, DEU, and the Camarillo Investigations Unit responded to the outlets. Detectives located the suspect vehicle and positively identified Nunez as the driver of the suspect vehicle.
Detectives also observed an unknown male subject operating with Nunez. The unknown male subject was later identified as, (S) Erwin Junir Arotinco Shaupingahua. Detectives observed Nunez leave the suspect vehicle at which point she was quickly taken into custody. Detectives also detained Shaupingahua, who was found in a nearby retail store.
Detectives learned Nunez and Shaupingahua were committing thefts from multiple stores at the Camarillo Premium Outlets. During a search of the suspect vehicle, approximately $4,500 of suspected stolen property was discovered.
Nunez and Shaupingahua were arrested for multiple violations including California Penal Code Section 490.4(a) – [Organized Retail Theft] and 182(a)(1) – [Felony Conspiracy to Commit a Crime].
The second suspect, who was eventually identified and involved in the crimes in May 2026, was not present with Nunez or Shaupingahua. SEU and DEU Detectives are currently investigating this suspect and anticipate their arrest at a later date.
