Driver Arrested for DUI after Short Vehicle Pursuit
On Thursday, July 30, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle driving at an extremely high rate of speed traveling eastbound on East Washington Street at the Highway 101 overpass. The officer attempted a traffic enforcement stop, however, the driver failed to yield to the officer’s lights and sirens and continued at a speed nearly double the posted speed limit in conjunction with disregarding the traffic control red light at the intersection of East Washington Street and Maria Drive. The driver was later identified as Frank Jordan Garcia, a 30-year-old Petaluma resident.
Due to Garcia’s failure to yield, a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The driver ultimately yielded to officers in the area of Maria Drive near Lauren Drive. Garcia was taken into custody without incident after leading officers on a pursuit lasting just under one mile and reaching speeds of approximately 70 mph.
While speaking with officers, Garcia displayed signs of being impaired by an alcoholic beverage. He was arrested and transported to the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:
23152(a) CVC – Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
2800.2(a) CVC – Felony Reckless Evading
23103(a) CVC- Reckless Driving
The Petaluma Police Department reminds the public that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk. Please plan ahead by using a designated driver, rideshare service, or other safe transportation option. Your choices can save lives.
