The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Hoboken and the surrounding area starting tonight, Aug. 2, at 8 p.m., through tomorrow evening.
The NWS is forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms starting tonight through tomorrow with locally high rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour possible.
Residents are reminded that the city can experience flooding in low-lying, flood-prone areas if more than 0.8 inches of rain per hour falls, particularly around high tide, which will be at approximately midnight.
Do not move or go around barricades
The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Signal and Traffic Division, and Hoboken Police are staging barricades in low-lying, flood-prone areas, and will deploy them as needed.
DO NOT drive around or move barricades. They are there for your safety, and in some cases, can prevent wake waters that cause even greater damage.
Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and cause vehicles to stall, which can impact emergency response times. Residents should not walk or drive through floodwater.
Report clogged catch basins
Clogged catch basins can significantly impede drainage during heavy rainfall events and lead to more severe flooding.
