UPDATE: Green Bay Police Issue Reminder on Dangers of Following Too Closely in Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge Crash Investigation
UPDATE - 8/3/26:
The Green Bay Police Department has determined that the cause of the multi‑vehicle crash on the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge on Friday, July 31, 2026, began when a tire broke loose from a vehicle traveling ahead of a semitruck. The loose tire then struck multiple vehicles traveling on the bridge.
In addition, the driver of the semitruck was cited for following too closely after their vehicle struck a car traveling ahead and pinned it against the side of the bridge.
At this time, it is believed a total of seven vehicles were involved in the overall incident.
We would like to remind all drivers of the importance of maintaining adequate following distance. Allowing proper space between vehicles provides the time and distance needed to safely stop and avoid crashes when unexpected roadway hazards or emergencies occur.
