The Newark Police Department has received reports that scammers are spoofing our department's phone number to make it appear as though calls are coming from us.
Please remember:
- Do not provide personal, financial, or banking information over the phone.
- The Newark Police Department will never demand payment over the phone or ask you to pay using gift cards, cash, cryptocurrency, or other unusual payment methods.
- If you receive a suspicious call that appears to come from the Newark Police Department, hang up and call us back using our official non-emergency number, to verify the call before sharing any information.
Scammers can make caller ID display a trusted phone number.
