| On July 31, 2026, Ventura County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 4900 block of Perry Way to investigate a reported residential burglary involving a hot prowl. The victim, an 86-year-old woman, was asleep inside her residence during the early morning hours, when she was awakened by a noise. She discovered an unknown Hispanic male standing over her bed. The suspect became agitated and demanded that the victim take him to an unknown location. The victim refused and repeatedly ordered the suspect to leave her home. The suspect ultimately fled the residence on foot. Detectives from the Headquarters Station responded to the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. During their investigation, detectives located evidence inside the residence, as well as a broken exterior window believed to be the point of entry. Additional evidence collected at the scene provided investigators with information that assisted in identifying the suspect. Detectives from the West County Special Enforcement Unit and the Sheriff's Office Homeless Liaison Unit also responded to assist with the investigation. Using the evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Gustavo Uribe. Detectives subsequently responded to Uribe's residence, where they contacted him. The victim positively identified Uribe as the individual who entered her home. Based on the victim's statements and the evidence collected, detectives arrested Uribe for violations of California Penal Code Section 459 / Burglary and California Penal Code Section 368(b)(1) / Elder or Dependent Adult Abuse. Uribe was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for the above-listed charges and is being held on $50,000 bail. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is committed to protecting our community and thoroughly investigating crimes that threaten the safety of our residents, especially those involving vulnerable members of our community. Through coordinated investigative efforts and available law enforcement resources, deputies and detectives will continue working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible for committing crimes in Ventura County.
