SUSPECT: Cris Jones, 60-year-old, Resident of Yucca Valley

VICTIM: Daniel Joslin, 61-year-old, Resident of Yucca Valley

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, based on information obtained during the investigation, Morongo Station Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence Joslin shared with his roommate, Cris Jones, in the 58000 block of Carlyle Drive, in Yucca Valley. During the service of the warrant, investigators located human remains in a shallow grave in the backyard of the residence.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail responded to the location and assumed the investigation. Detectives along with the Coroner's Division and Crime Scene Specialists conducted a search in the yard and removed the decedent. The Coroner’s Division positively identified him as Daniel Joslin. 

Detectives identified Cris Jones as the suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued. On August 2, 2026, with assistance from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon, Jones was located and arrested. Jones is currently being held for the murder of Joslin and is pending extradition to California. This investigation remains ongoing.

SUMMARY: 
On Friday, July 3, 2026, at about 7:31 p.m., Morongo Basin deputies responded to a missing person report in Yucca Valley.  The missing person, Daniel Howard Joslin, had not been seen or contacted by family or friends for about ten days.  Investigators received information Joslin might have intended to travel to Oregon, but no evidence has been found to confirm he traveled there and his whereabouts remain unknown.  

Joslin is described as a 61-year-old White male from Yucca Valley. Joslin is about 6' 2" and weighs approximately 260 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Joslin was last in contact with family and friends on June 26, 2026.
