Heat advisory in effect through tomorrow night

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for Hudson County, including Hoboken, through tomorrow night with heat index values, or real feel temperatures, of up to 104 degrees expected. NWS anticipates extending the advisory through at least Saturday.

Residents with chronic health problems, and seniors, are at an increased risk of heat-related illness. Those who must be outside are reminded to take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and hydrate.

Due to the heat advisory, Hudson County has declared a code red. In response, the County Cooling Center will remain open for overnight hours through Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. Transportation will be provided on a continuous basis. Hoboken's pick-up and drop-off location is on the northwest corner of Observer Highway and Park Avenue. Those who miss the transportation and need emergency shelter should call 2-1-1. The Hoboken Shelter, at 300 Bloomfield St., also serves as a drop-in cooling center between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Concert in the Park postponed

Due to forecasted thunderstorms this evening, tonight’s concert in the park by the Puerto Rican Cultural Committee with DJ Kasanova and Kevin Rodriguez and the Salsa All-Stars, has been rescheduled to Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. at Sinatra Park.

Resource Fair at the Multi-Service Center until 1 p.m.

The Hudson County Community Resource Fair is happening until 1 p.m. today at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand St.

Hoboken and Hudson County residents are invited to connect with local, county, and community organizations offering a wide range of services and benefits including housing assistance, Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), veteran benefits, senior transportation options, and property tax reimbursement programs, including the Senior Freeze program. Staff from participating agencies will also be available to help eligible residents apply for programs and benefits.

NY Waterway 14th Street ferry service suspended this weekend, to resume Monday

NY Waterway has advised the City of Hoboken of an upcoming ferry service suspension, to allow for a barge reposition. Ferry service will be suspended between Hoboken 14th Street and Midtown/West 29th on Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9.
