Given that recent king tides this summer have been 0.4 - 0.8 feet higher than predicted due to warmer ocean water from El Niño and windy conditions, the community should prepare for similar flooding conditions, including possible road closures, in historically affected areas.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to take simple preparedness steps, including clearing debris from gutters, drains, and driveways, securing homes in flood-prone areas with sandbags when appropriate, avoiding parking in low areas, and securing loose construction materials in yards. Never walk or drive through water of unknown depth, follow posted road signs, and do not drive around barricades.
